I think we give our inner critic far too much airtime. With a title like that, most of our inner critics have plenty of ideas about how terrible our life is and how we need to get our act together.
You need to lose 50 pounds
You need to stop wasting your time
You need to… blah blah blah
It’s never positive, like seriously, lighten up, man. Change doesn’t have to be a tyrannical dictatorship of shame and oppression. If your inner critic was a person standing in front of you, I think defenestration (the act of throwing someone out a window) would be a pretty reasonable first reaction.
Let’s look at a more humane form of getting our lives in order. One that motivates us to keep moving instead of pushing us down.
